This tool performs a Component-Based Finite Element Method (CBFEM) analysis of steel base plate connections. Unlike traditional hand calculations that use simplified assumptions, CBFEM models the actual geometry and captures realistic stress distributions, contact behavior, and load paths.
Both the base plate and column stub are modeled using 4-node quadrilateral shell elements with the MITC4 formulation.
The concrete is modeled as compression-only springs (Winkler foundation). Bolts are tension-only springs. The Newton-Raphson solver handles the nonlinear contact problem.
Bearing pressure, Von Mises stress, displacement, and contact state are computed for each element.
